Love International Reveal Full Lineup

In 2016 Love International continues the legacy left by The Garden Festival in Croatia, the region’s founding event and the one which inspired the now burgeoning scene of electronic music along the country’s stunning coast.

Making its debut on June 29th, Love International’s ethos might already feel a little familiar, curated by Dave Harvey and Tom Paine who have many years of experience working with The Garden Festival’s crew and shaping its artist bookings. Now they are realising their full vision, bringing back some old friends who have graced Tisno over the years and also introducing many of the world’s most revered DJs and producers for the first time to Tisno.

Five of the just revealed names are all amazing artists in their own right, each bringing something different to Love International. Eats Everything is quite simply one of the world’s biggest DJs and for the last three years he has blown Tisno away; for pure electric party vibes it doesn’t get any better. Bicep had a huge 2015 and the duo are all set to make this year even bigger, sculpting sublime sets across disco, house and techno, whilst Jackmaster played arguably one of the defining sets of last year with Armand Van Helden, their Boiler Room show skipping between French touch to garage and everything good in between. Roman Flugel is a Teutonic legend from the early 1990s crossing ambient, house, techno, electro and leftfield, and prime Swedish export Axel Boman is a bit of a young legend already; his Studio Barnhus label is a source of great material, and he has released and remixed on Permanent Vacation, Moodmusic and Hypercolour. The guys are joined by the already announced Dixon, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Ben UFO, Gerd Janson, Craig Richards, Joy Orbison, Midland, Horse Meat Disco, Prosumer, Hunee and Job Jobse.

Love International Announces Line-up

After the original Croatian festival – The Garden Festival, closed its doors last year after a decade of parties it seemed as the yearly trek to the Adriatic sea was coming to the end for some. It seems that is not the case, however, as a spiritual successor is starting to shape up – Love International.

By day a harmonious holiday beneath the sizzling sun, and by dusk as the beats shift gear and introduce each balmy night beneath a canopy of stars, the intimate setting holds a unique energy, sound tracked by some of the world’s leading underground DJs and producers, drawing a vibrant and diverse audience from across the world to this tiny strip of paradise.

Dave Harvey, one of Love International’s founders, explains that: “We are feeling really great about Love International and continuing the great work The Garden Festival family created here over the last ten years. What we are doing is going to have its own vibe and some new elements, but at the same time we are seeking to retain and embrace what made The Garden so good – that family feel to it all, everyone knowing everyone else, all set in this incredible site on the coast. For us it’s about continuing that growth in our own way, so people who came to The Garden will find Love International familiar to them, but at the same time it will be a new experience. We feel we have got some great names onboard for our first announcement, with loads more to come in January.”

Outlook Festival Reveals Second Wave of Artists

All I can say is “dayum”… Just a week after announcing the initial lineup, Outlook Festival have announced yet more legendary names to an already monumental lineup.

On the hip-hop front, the one and only Madlib will be hosting “The Madlib Carnival”- a 10 hour micro-festival featuring fellow crate digger J Rocc as well as the Detroit demigod Moodymann.

BadBadNotGood will be repping their distinct brand of Jazz-Hop following the success of last year’s “III” and this year’s Ghostface Killah collaborative LP whilst Swedish “Sad Boy” and bucket hat aficionado, Yung Lean will be taking to the mic.

The already lush bass programme has just been injected with a big dose of “wow” thanks to dubstep pioneers Youngsta, Hatcha and Loefah (completing the holy DMZ trinity), legendary grime crew Newham Generals (D Double E, Footsie, DJ MS1) as well as Shy FX, Icicle and ol’ school revivalist Congo Natty bringing the jungle to Pula. Even garage gets a nod with sets from Toddla T and Artful Dodger (#rewind).

Dem man ARE ‘ard

The house and techno lineup is further bolstered by UK underground duo, Dusky (who’s BBC Essential Mix was contender for best of the year), George Fitzgerald and electronica hybrid producer Lone.

Still unannounced is the third special guest for the opening party, and if this reveal is any indication, we all have something to be crazy excited about.

Outlook Festival Reveals Opening Concert and Lineup

The acclaimed bass festival will take over a 2000 year-old Roman Amphitheatre in Pula on the 2nd of September, headlined by the entirety of the legendary hip-hop crew, Jurassic 5, as well as the Mercury Prize winning drum and bass duo, Roni Size Reprazent, who’ll be playing a live show. They’ll be supported by the Gentlemen’s Dub Club and the Trojan Soundsystem as well as a very special guest yet to be announced.

The rest of the lineup is, quite frankly, mind-blowing with stellar artists from all over the bass spectrum. On the hip hop front, underground ballers Run the Jewels will be joined by psych-rap newcomers Flatbush Zombies as well ol’ school stars Pete Rock and The Beatnuts.

It also reads like a history lesson in the UK Bass scene, featuring original steppas Cutty Ranks and David Rodigan, dubstep pioneers DMZ, Pinch and The Bug as well as dBridge and Goldie on the drum and bass front. The unstoppable return of grime is also well represented with the likes of Flowdan, Manga, JME and Skepta spitting bars whilst Mumdance and DJ Milktray take to the decks.

In short, the 2nd of September can’t come soon enough…

Dimensions Festival Opening Concert Announced

In what is perhaps one of the most majestic man-made environments for entertainment in the world, Dimensions Festival now very proudly announces the lineup for its opening concert at the breath-taking 2000-year old Roman amphitheatre in the coastal city of Pula. The imposing high walls, vast arches and oval of bright blue sky above are  into the past at the Croatian marvel; here there is a sense of historic  as the sun sets behind the vast towering stone blocks in a breath-taking  preserved over the centuries. It is one of the region’s true architectural wonders which sets the scene for a thrilling and mesmerising journey led by leaders of the electronic music sphere.

Last year’s Dimensions Opening Concert, headlined by Caribou.

It has been less than a year since I stepped into the amphitheatre myself and still, even the thought of it sends shivers down my spine. The venue, the people and the SOUND are incredible and a must-see/hear to every electronic music fan. This year we have an extraordinary line-up ready to enhance the magic even more – Four Tet, Little Dragon and Floating Points will all grace the stage on Wednesday, 26th of August.

I cannot recommend this enough, both having seen the venue and the headliners in previous years!

The Garden Festival 2015 announces 10th anniversary line-up

Croatia has become a hot spot for festival goers in the last few years. It all got started with The Garden Festival way back in 2005. They are promising to celebrate their anniversary in style with the first round of names being topped by an iconic figure the team have always wanted to bring to Tisno – DJ Harvey. Nick Colgan, one of the festival’s founders, explains:

“We have been trying to get DJ Harvey to play for us for five years, and now it feels really fitting that he is coming over for our very last Garden celebration. He is of course someone we hugely respect and we know embodies what we have always set out to do here, and he has got quite a special set too if I am honest! Harvey is taking over Barbarella’s all night long on the very last night of the festival which is his only set for us, so it’s a great way for us to go out with a huge bang and for Electric Elephant to start right after we finish!”

Dave Harvey, from Futureboogie and one of The Garden Festival’s bookers, speaks of the other first names revealed:

“We’ve also got Seth Troxler who came and played for us many moons ago at the old site when he was very much in his ascendancy. He’s now one of the biggest DJs on the planet but still remains down to earth, and he’s all about the good vibes so it’s a real treat to have him come back for this final instalment.”

“Then there’s Joy Orbison, Ben UFO and Midland. Joy is another artist who has been on our wanted list for several years so again it’s great to finally have him on board. And after their absolutely killer back to back session in 2014 we had to get Ben and Midland again – they’ve been good friends to the festival over the years and are both absolute gents, so we are well happy to welcome them again in Tisno.”

Craig Richards‘ set at Barbarella’s last year was absolutely amazing, a real highlight of the festival for the team and many of the people who attended – dropping Talk Talk at 6am as the sun was rising was really magical! Musically he’s always interesting and eclectic, and his standing has really risen in recent years too – add the fact he’s a great man to go down the pub with, and we just had to get him back. We have something very special lined up with Craig this year, so keep ‘em peeled for more news on that.

“Then we have two acts who are absolutely integral to what The Garden has been about since the very early days, Greg Wilson and Crazy P (live). Every year these guys deliver the goods and it simply wouldn’t be the festival without them. And finally we are very happy to welcome the Psychemagik boys back too.”

Whilst 2015 is its final year, The Garden Festival’s legacy will long live on, with a continuing bloom at The Garden Tisno into 2016 and beyond from a season of festivals and events both already established and tantalisingly new.
